The supermoon rises over the flightline Sept. 8, 2014, at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. Supermoons are full moons that coincide with "lunar perigee," when the moon's orbit brings it closest to Earth. This moon appears bigger and brighter than a typical full moon. The lunar event on this particular night was unique in its own way as it coincided with the Harvest Moon.
