Walk away breast cancer Mother’s Day

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization is launching its first Sacramento Walk to Empower, a three-mile noncompetitive walk scheduled for May 14 at Crocker Park in Sacramento.

A meaningful way to spend Mother’s Day morning, participants can pay tribute to a loved one who has been touched by breast cancer and ensure that no one has to face breast cancer alone.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by noon.

“Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization has been a premier resource for breast cancer and breast health information, peer support and empowerment for nearly 30 years,” said Ms. Heidi Gatzke, coordinator of the Walk to Empower program. “They provide information and support to anyone touched by breast cancer.”

According to Ms. Gatzke, the Y-ME Breast Cancer Organization has many programs and services available free of charge.

“Their sole purpose is to be there for the person who has just found a lump, for the individual whose partner has just been diagnosed, for the daughter who is coping with an increased risk of breast cancer and for the person who needs more information on breast cancer in another language,” said Ms. Gatzke.

To date, Y-Me Mother’s Day events have raised more than $20 million to help ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. The Travis Team has teamed up with Y-Me, setting a goal of $5,000 in a local effort to support and raise additional funds. It needs the support of the entire Travis community to meet the goal in time for the Mother’s Day Walk to Empower.
