Travis continues to require base vehicle decals for all personnel who live or work on base, including military (active, Reserve and guard) members, their families and DoD civilian employees assigned to Travis.

For personnel with a base decal that expired in 2007, Security Forces have allowed a 60-day grace period to renew the decal. Effective March 1, personnel with an expired base decal will be required to renew the decal or get a visitor pass for the vehicle to enter base. Personnel may register their vehicles with their group orderly room or at Pass and Registration, Bldg. 605, off Air Base Parkway near the main gate.

Although the Chief of Staff, United States Air Force eliminated the requirement to issue base decals, installation commanders retain the authority to continue issuing decals based on a local risk assessment.

Certain installations, such as Travis, have unique standards whereby issuing decals assists law enforcement in executing their duties. In deciding whether or not to eliminate base decals, Air Mobility Command asked all installation commanders to assess their situation against a predetermined set of criteria. This included the proximity to sister service installations, which still require vehicle registration and number and frequency of visitors. Travis determined continuing the decal policy makes sense for the base.
