There are two types of Airmen serving in today's Air Force: those who have deployed and those who are going to deploy. Whether serving on active duty, in the Air National Guard or with the Air Force Reserves, the expeditionary force is no longer just concept to our warriors in uniform.

More than ever, it is necessary to be prepared. Whatever your career field, time in service or rank, we are all acutely aware deployments are on the rise. It is a shared experience and expectation across the Air Force and all the more reason to emphasize a posture of readiness.

Since the 9/11 attacks nearly a decade ago, our warrior Airmen have been defending freedom around the world as well as thwarting threats to our homeland. Whether serving at home or overseas, our Air Force has continually proven itself to be a formidable force. We continue to dominate the high frontier, skies, and cyber domain, and whatever the mission, our force is ready to respond quickly and decisively.

Effective deployment preparation and a healthy perspective is the key to our success. While deployed, we build nations, nurture relationships and experience situations that will stay with us for a lifetime. Looking at a deployment as an opportunity for personal and professional growth can help look beyond the angst and stress. Keeping yourself physically, mentally and spiritually fit for duty can also help you overcome many challenges.

Deployments can also provide unique opportunities to put your talents and skills to the test. Once you apply your knowledge in the field, often in austere conditions with limited resources, you will build the confidence to succeed in any endeavor. In today's Air Force, our Airmen are developed in garrison but forged in the field.

It is important to remember a deployment not only affects Airmen but also the families back at home. Again, preparation is key to a successful deployment - whether you are packing up your A-bag, honing your combat skills, or making sure your personal affairs are in order. To help with a variety of issues that may arise during a deployment, make sure your family is familiar with individuals and agencies like the first sergeant, the Key Spouse Program, and the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

Amidst all the stress surrounding a deployment, one thing is always clear: the willingness of our men and women in uniform to serve whenever and wherever they are called is a true testament to their dedication and professionalism. And, regardless of the perils, our warrior Airmen are All In!
