Colonel PATRICK PARSONS

Col Patrick B. "P2" Parsons is the Commander of the 60th Medical Group and the Director of David Grant Medical Center at Travis AFB, California. He is responsible for establishing policies and maintaining standards of practice to govern all medical, dental, and support programs for 276,000 Department of Defense and Veteran Affairs eligible beneficiaries. He oversees a budget of $165 million dollars, manages the largest Air Force medical facility at approximately 2.3 million square feet, which handles more than 411,000 patient encounters annually. Col Parsons leads seven squadrons encompassing 2,500 staff and 450 medical providers. The 60th Medical Group provides and arranges comprehensive community and referral healthcare, as well as aeromedical staging, deployable medical readiness capabilities, education, research, and teleradiology services. The medical group also supports DoD/VA joint ventures.

A Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2000, the colonel entered The Ohio State University’s College of Dentistry on a Health Professions Scholarship Program scholarship. He graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2004 and entered the USAF Dental Corps where he completed a one-year general dentistry residency at Langley AFB, Va. Prior to his current position, the colonel was a General Dentist, Flight Commander, Graduate Dental Education Residency Program Director, Medical Group Executive Officer, Executive Officer to the Wing Commander and Assistant Surgeon General for Dental Services, Squadron Commander, and dual-hatted Medical Group Commander and Military Treatment Facility Director.

He deployed in support of Operation SHARED ACCORD and Operation BEYOND THE HORIZONS. Dr. Parsons completed a two-year comprehensive care residency at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas and achieved Board Certification status with the American Board of General Dentistry in 2014 and Fellowship Status with the American Academy of General Dentistry in 2015.  He was a student at Air University at Maxwell AFB, Ala. where he graduated with Academic Distinction and received the Air Force Surgeon General’s Award for his thesis on “Medical Support for Combat Operations in a Denied Environment: Considerations for Immediate and Future Operations and Research Across the Strategic, Operational, and Tactical Domains.”  Prior to his current assignment, Col Parsons was dual hatted as the Special Assistant to the Air Force Surgeon General for Military Health System Governance and Chief of the Air Force Medical Service’s Transition Cell, Defense Health Headquarters, Va.
