The VPP Safety Hazard Reporting Button Published Dec. 8, 2008 By Bob Holby Travis Volunteer Protection Program TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The VPP Safety Hazard Reporting Button is a new addition to the Travis Team sharepoint homepage. Clicking on this button brings the viewer to a form allowing the user to report any type of safety hazard they find. One can even upload documents or photos if they will help the safety office understand the problem. The wing safety office reviews every new report as soon as it is entered, and sends a safety expert to investigate. Any reports submitted will receive a fast and serious investigation. Once the safety officials have validated and properly documented the hazard, it will be given a Risk Assessment Code. This will prioritize hazards by their severity and ensure resources are dedicated to the most pressing safety concerns. The safety folks will then get with the appropriate people (i.e. building custodian, fire department, security forces, David Grant USAF Medical Center, etc.) to resolve the issue. Everyone who has access to this homepage can report a hazard. An individual may find an item that they feel is a small safety hazard. Take the opportunity to fix it yourself. This is the essence of the VPP program -- empowering all individuals to act as their own safety managers. If a person can't fix it, warn others about it and report it; if the right person can't be found to work the issue, use this VPP Safety Hazard Reporting Button and the wing safety office will find the right person. If this is a very serious hazard, please be proactive in trying to protect others from the hazard. Don't let it wait for an unsuspecting victim. Anyone can make a difference by getting the ball rolling. Col. Mark Dillon, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander asks many people "Where will the next accident occur on Travis?" By finding a safety hazard, one answers his question. So, fix it, mark it, report it.
