60th FSS implements new assignment process Published Sept. 24, 2008 60th Force Support Squadron TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 60th Force Support Squadron has implemented a new, more efficient process that decreases the amount of time Travis members spend on out processing. In the past when an assignment flowed to a member, certain paperwork had to be hand-walked with all necessary out-processing forms, and turned into an Outbound Assignments counselor. The manual process directly contributed to delays in assignment processing, loss of paperwork, and long waiting lines to see an assignment counselor to turn in paperwork. To sum this up, the old assignment process took the member's valuable time away from their work centers and away from the mission. The 60th Force Support Squadron Military Processing Section has introduced its new paperless assignment process for Travis. Now, when an assignment flows on a member, an electronic assignment notification is sent from Outbound Assignments to the unit commander. The unit commander will open an attachment that is prepared with all necessary assignment paperwork and guides. The commander simply reviews the assignment and clicks send to the member. The member will then look over all attachments and print out the assignment papers. The assignment papers will need to be filled out by the member and signed by the unit commander. The member will then log onto the Virtual Military Personnel Flight Web site to complete their initial assignment briefing. This initial paperwork is known as Packet A. Once Packet A is completed; the member can either fax or scan/email this paperwork to the organizational email box for Outbound Assignments. If the member is going overseas, then there is a Packet B that has a list of many items to turn in (Medical/Dental/Immunization Clearance letters, Air Force Form 422, Servicemembers Group Life Insurance, etc.) The member will be required to complete Packet B and scan/email it to Outbound Assignments. Once Packet A is turned in, the member is loaded into the Virtual Outprocessing checklist so they can start their wing out processing electronically. This saves countless out processing hours by simply making a call to each agency and out processing with them. Some agencies require a visit, but for the most part this electronic checklist keeps the member informed and saves them valuable time. With the receipt of both Packet A and if necessary, Packet B, PCS orders will now be processed for the member. Customers can expect their PCS orders within 60 days from their projected departure date. Final out processing is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1 p.m., in Bldg. 381 (Erwin Hall), Room E102. All members must be in military uniform and have their medical/dental records, Air Force Form 623s and completed VOP checklist. The earliest a member can final out process, is 48 hours prior to their departure date from Travis.
