TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – The Air Force will hold a public hearing Nov. 28 in Fairfield, California, to hear comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the KC-46A Main Operating Base Four Beddown.

The Air Force is considering Travis Air Force Base, California, as a preferred alternative location for the KC-46 Pegasus aircraft.

The hearing will be at the Northern Solano County Association of Realtors building, 3690 Hilborn Road.  Doors open at 5 p.m. to allow the general public to view posters explaining EIS-related issues such as the proposed action, environmental topics and how to submit comments. The Air Force will present more details on the proposed actions prior to the formal public testimony which begins at 6 p.m. The hearing ends at 8 p.m.

The KC-46A is the first phase of a 3-phase effort to replace an aging tanker fleet with more refueling capacity and enhanced capabilities, improved efficiency and increased capabilities for cargo and aeromedical evacuation.  The KC-46A will provide aerial refueling to Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps aircraft as well as allied nation and coalition forces aircraft.

Travis AFB is one of four active duty bases being considered for the KC-46A mission along with Fairchild AFB, Washington; Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota; and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.

Although the preferred and reasonable alternative locations have been announced for the KC-46A beddown, a final decision will not be made until the National Environmental Policy Act process is complete.
