SS030 - Monitoring Well 269




Conveyance Piping to Connect Off-base Wells to Treatment Plant

Monitoring Well 269 (SS030) is located at the south boundary of the base adjacent to Building 1125, a communications facility. The facility's septic system may be a source of solvent-contaminated groundwater that has migrated 1,700 feet beyond the base boundary.  Trichloroethene (TCE) is the primary groundwater contaminant.

The Travis AFB Groundwater Record of Decision selected Groundwater Extraction and Treatment for the final remedy. A groundwater extraction system that fully captures the off-base plume is in place at SS030 and is supported by the South Base Boundary Groundwater Treatment Plant.  Routine operations and maintenance as well as groundwater monitoring of the final remedy are ongoing.

Soil chemicals of concern on the 1.6-acre site include Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, metals, Volatile Organic Compounds, and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds. Based on human health and ecological assessments of the potential risks posed by the soil contaminants, the NEWIOU Soil, Sediment, and Surface Water Record of Decision selected No Action for the soil at this site.
