2013 Orientation Schedule:
Important briefings and courses have been scheduled Monday through Friday from 0700-1700hrs June 3-28. Expect to be ready to join the team seeing patients June 28, 2013. Expect to report in blues with your financial, medical, dental, travel, and re-commissioning papers at 0700hrs on June 3, 2013. The Reporting Location, exact meeting time, and specific items to bring the first morning will be available on this page of the website by June 27, 2013.

DO NOT SCHEDULE ANYTHING PERSONAL DURING THIS TIME without prior approval from the Director of Medical Education. As active duty military, you cannot leave the Travis AFB area -- even during weekends -- without obtaining official approval from your commander. During the month of June 2013, the Director of Medical Education will be your commander.

The following calendar is subject to change; please check back for updated information:

Week 1: June 3-7 -- Travis AFB In-processing & ACLS
Week 2: June 10-14 -- PALS, Hospital Orientation
Week 3: June 17-21 -- NRP, Department Orientation
Week 4: June 24-28 -- See Patients/Department Orientation

Expect to start seeing patients after orientation, ready to chart (using our AHLTA charting system, our CHCS ordering system, our PACs radiographic system), ready to resuscitate (using the code cart/defibrillator) in the case of a child, infant or adult code. Expect to wear your service blues the first week of orientation and to wear the Airman Battledress Uniform Tuesdays through Fridays afterwards. It is never too early to contact current residents or use online resources to hunt for a place to live.

National Provider Identification:
Click the Health and Human Services link below to register online for a National Provider Identification number. You will be applying for the Type 1 (Individual Provider) so you will not need to list an EIN#. Most of you are just graduating and do not yet have a license - in this case, do not select your specialty from the NPI website drop down menu, but list yourself during intern year as a "student". After you are finished, you will receive an email confirmation. Forward the email to the GME email box listed here:

60mdg.sgt.clerkship@us.af.mil

Please save a copy for your records and for your program coordinator.

The Director, Medical Education, has direct access to the DGMC Commander and Administrators on matters relating to facility needs and resources for GME programs, and is empowered by those Commanders with the responsibility and authority to manage all GME programs.
