David Grant USAF Medical Center - Family Advocacy Program

Family Advocacy's number one goal is to build healthy Air Force families and communities through prevention, treatment, and research. Family Advocacy seeks first to prevent family violence. It provides prevention and treatment to reduce risk of maltreatment and to assist families in maintaining or regaining balance in family life management.

Every effort is made to protect the dignity and privacy of the family when an allegation of maltreatment is received. DGMC's Family Advocacy Program offers a variety of resources to address actual or potential maltreatment and help families have the strong and loving bond they deserve. Family Advocacy's prevention component offers programs designed to educate support and promote family wellness and reduce child abuse and domestic violence. Family Advocacy is comprised of three components: Outreach and Prevention, Treatment and Victim Advocacy. Family Advocacy Program offers Restricted (no command involvement) and Unrestricted Report (command involvement)

New Parent Support Program: The New Parent Support Program is an all-encompassing plan to provide support and education to military families in the prenatal period and during the first three years postpartum. The program is designed as a non-threatening method to provide basic services on parenting attitudes and serve as a means to identify parents at risk and market postpartum services.

NPSP is a secondary prevention program that uses an intensive, voluntary home visitation model to provide education and supportive services to families with children from birth to three years of age, including the prenatal period. Services are provided primarily by Registered Nurses (RNs), augmented by social workers. NPSP services capitalize on parents' strengths and are provided in a manner sensitive to cultural differences. Involvement of both parents in NPSP services is promoted, when applicable.

DGMC's Family Advocacy Program also offers extensive outreach and skill training to help prevent violence. The Domestic Abuse Victim advocate is available 24/7.   Call 423-5168 for more information and resources.
