David Grant USAF Medical Center - Joint Inpatient Mental Health Unit (JIMHU)

Opened in June 2009, DGMC's Joint Inpatient Mental Health Unit is a joint venture Department of Defense/Department of Veterans Affairs inpatient psychiatric facility designed to provide state-of-the-art psychiatric treatment. The JIMHU offers an individualized, innovative, and multidisciplinary approach including daily treatment team meetings, intense therapeutic activities (both individual and group therapies), educational classes, occupational therapy, chaplain support, and 24/7 access to a dedicated team of helping professionals.

Patient care treatment goals are developed collaboratively with the patient and his/her family when appropriate, and are reviewed daily to assess progress or initiate modifications to ensure treatment success and safe, thorough discharge planning and continuity of care and maintenance of treatment goals.

This exceptional facility has a 20 Bed capacity with two seclusion rooms, two ADA rooms, two day rooms, and two treatment rooms. The JIMHU is Northern California's largest VA center north of Palo Alto to Portland, OR, and one of the largest DoD inpatient psychiatric facilities in the country.

Consistent with DGMC's commitment to graduate education and staff development, the JIMHU is actively involved in establishing training agreements for Air Force psychiatric nurses, VA psychologists, Air Force psychiatrists, and civilian medical specialists.

The JIMHU has also been certified by the state of California to accept patients in need of involuntary psychiatric hospitalization, in accordance with California's Health and Welfare Code 5150
