David Grant USAF Medical Center - Learning Resource Center

Comprehensive medical library services are provided for DGMC staff via our Learning Resource Center. An information specialist manages the LRC and provides assistance with reference questions, computer searches, and using online resources. There is access to more than 14,000 electronic journals, 517 electronic books, and a print collection of 2,500 circulating and reference books available within the LRC.
 
There is also an extensive collection of online resources including Medline, MD Consult, CINAHL, Up-to-Date, and StatDx.

Interlibrary loan service is also available for material that is not owned by the LRC.

Public-access computers, printers, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also available in the LRC for DGMC staff.

Can I get into the LRC at night and on weekends?
Yes. After hours access is available for DGMC staff and students. Pass your DGMC badge in front of the card reader.

*NOTE: No password is needed if you are in the hospital BUT you must first register your Common Access Card on the Kx website; CAC card and CAC card software is required if you are outside the hospital; see the Information Specialist for additional information or pickup a white "computer resources" card.

What is the easiest way to access these resources?
If in the hospital, use the link to the LRC Sharepoint page (applies to DGMC staff and active-duty/civilian personnel with required CAC card use). It contains links to our electronic journals, databases, library catalog, and interlibrary loan request form. 

What is the AFMS Virtual Library (VL)?
It is part of the Air Force Medical Service's Knowledge Exchange (Kx) website. It currently has over fourteen databases plus New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA and was created to provide online resources to AF clinical personnel world-wide.

How do I find full-text electronic articles?
A list of both locally-purchased and VL online journals are on the LRC Sharepoint page. There is also a list on the AFMS Virtual Library.
 
How do I find out what books or audiovisual products are in the LRC collection?
See the online catalog on our Sharepoint page.

Does the LRC have computers?
Yes!  There are four public computers that you may use (including two for checking personal email). Wireless Internet access is also available.

How do I check out material?

Instructions are at the front counter or ask for assistance. Materials are checked out on a self-service, honor system. Items may be checked out at night and on weekends. There is no limit on the number of items checked out. You must be a DGMC employee or student and complete a LRC Signature card to check out material.

How can I obtain a copy of an article or book if the LRC doesn't have it? How long will it take to receive it?
Use the request form on our Sharepoint page or ask the Information Specialist for assistance. Normal turn-around is 1-2 days for articles but "rush" service is available for patient care needs.

I need help with a computer search.  What can you do for me? 
Please schedule an appointment with the Information Specialist or drop by.

Do you have study materials for medical boards and certification exams?
Yes. See below.

Exam Master Online contains more than 16,000 board review questions and answers on basic sciences and clinical subjects.

StatDx is a radiology teaching resource with more than 80,000 radiographic images and 2,500 diagnoses. Currently access is available to medical residents only; see the Information Specialist to obtain a password.

Audio Digest contains monthly audio lectures on various topics. The following specialties are available on CD and may be checked out for two weeks. Free downloads to your PC, iPod, iPad, or iPhone are available as well as CME credit.

We also have study and certification review books for a variety of healthcare specialties.

Can patients and visitors use the LRC?
Yes. Patients, visitors, and family members may use the LRC during normal duty hours but do not have borrowing privileges.
