David Grant USAF Medical Center - HL&VC

In partnership with the VA Northern California Health Care System, the Heart, Lung, and Vascular Center at David Grant USAF Medical Center provides a convenient "one-stop shopping" experience for patients with diseases of the heart, lungs, and circulation.

This unique model for healthcare delivery at an Air Force Medical Treatment Facility is achieved by providing a wide range of clinical capabilities and services in one unified multispecialty clinic.

Our experienced, courteous, and professional staff includes:

- Five board certified Cardiologists with the following additional subspecialty certifications:
      - Interventional Cardiology
   - Cardiac Device Implantation (pacemakers, defibrillators, and resynchronization devices)
      - Nuclear Imaging
      - Cardiac CT Imaging
- Two board certified / eligible Pulmonologists
- One board certified in Critical Care
- Two board certified Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons
- Two board certified Vascular Surgeons
- Two board certified Nurse Practitioners specializing in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Medicine
- One board certified Physician Assistant specializing in Cardio-thoracic and Vascular Surgery
- Multiple nurses and technicians with advanced training in rhythm monitoring, echocardiography, stress testing, cardiac catheterization, vascular ultrasonography, interventional cardiac and vascular procedures, pulmonary function testing, sleep testing, ventilator management, bronchoscopy, and the surgical treatment of heart, lung, and vascular diseases
- Professional administrative teams

The Heart, Lung, and Vascular Center provides healthcare to all west coast military and VA beneficiaries referred to DGMC.  These referrals will originate from Primary Care, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Flight Medicine, and Emergency Departments. However, we will also see referrals from surgeons and anesthesiologists.

We will see all patients able to travel to DGMC as soon as possible. Patients from select remote locations may have parts of their evaluation performed via "telemedicine" to avoid travel expenses and expedite their evaluation.

Our Current Services Include:
- Evaluation and treatment of:
- Coronary disease
- Arrhythmias, bradycardia, syncope
- Valvular heart disease
- Congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathies
- Obstructive and restrictive lung diseases
- Sleep disorders
- Lung nodules and masses
- Peripheral circulatory diseases
- Carotid artery disease
- Aneurysms of the aorta and other vessels
- Multiple modalities of noninvasive vascular imaging
- Minimally invasive and open vascular surgery
- Minimally invasive and open thoracic surgery

Future Additional Services:
- Intravascular ultrasound
- Coronary artery flow wire
- Coronary artery angioplasty and stenting
- Peripheral artery angioplasty and stenting
- Open heart surgery

NOTE: 
We were recently approved to bring Cardiac Electrophysiology to DGMC, which will allow us to perform electrophysiologic testing and ablation procedures. This $1 million program is scheduled to start summer 2012

Services That Will NOT Be Routinely Offered:

- Ventricular assist devices
- Heart and lung transplantation
- Congenital heart surgery

New Patient Referral Information:
We see all active duty and retired military members and their beneficiaries aged 18 and older. We will also see VA patients who are referred to or admitted to DGMC.

Non TRICARE Prime patients will be seen with a referral from any Primary Care Manager, Family Practice, or Internal Medicine provider.

Patient Instructions:
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment. If you are having a cardiac stress test or imaging procedure you should not eat for four hours prior to your arrival at DGMC.

Scheduling Appointments:
All initial appointments are booked through the Consult Management office. For urgent referrals requiring a visit within 72 hours, the referring physician should contact the on-call cardiologist via DGMC's Admissions Call Center at (707) 423-7790 (DSN 799-7790).
