LF006 - Landfill #1



Landfill #1 is a former municipal landfill located in the northeastern part of the base.  The 17-acre site operated as a trench and burn landfill from 1942 until the mid-1950s when the area was covered with soil and compacted.  The landfill received general refuse and some industrial waste.  Trichloroethylene has contaminated the groundwater and may be a source of potential human health risks.

The Travis AFB Groundwater Record of Decision selected Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) as the final groundwater remedy at this site.  The Site LF006 MNA monitoring network was established in 2015, and monitoring of the final groundwater remedy is ongoing.  The Remedial Investigation for the North Operable Unit concluded that this landfill does not need a soil remedial action.
