Located in northern California between San Francisco and Sacramento, the David Grant USAF Medical Center's Vascular Surgery Residency program was established in 2012 at Travis Air Force Base.
This training program is a fully accredited vascular surgery residency by the
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and is integrated with the
University of California, Davis and the
Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System.
DGMC's Vascular program is the next step in collaborative surgical GME between the three institutions; UCD and VANCHCS have been integrated with our
General Surgery Residency Program since 2006. A full description of the Vascular Residency program can be found on the

DGMC remains one of the critical clinical rotations for all vascular and surgical trainees during their clinical years. In 2011, the
Heart, Lung and Vascular Center at DGMC was christened and provides outpatient and inpatient care in a multi-disciplinary state-of-the-art environment. Our faculty at DGMC are comprised of four board-certified vascular and endovascular surgeons. They are part of a ten surgeon teaching faculty and division integrated within the three facilities. At DGMC there is a full complement of surgical subspecialists to include general surgery, minimally-invasive surgery, colorectal, trauma/critical care, and cardiothoracic surgery.
Two new categorical residents are selected for the vascular residency each year. One active-duty military intern is chosen in the Joint Services Graduate Medical Education Selection Board (JSGMESB) held each December in Washington, DC, and one civilian is selected via the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) each March.
Residents are scheduled for a five-year clinical training program. Additional time may be spent in either elective rotations or research activities based on individual preference and program authorization. Our research program involves clinical research at UCD and basic science at the Sacramento VAMC, as well as the DGMC Clinical Investigations Facility and the regenerative biosurgery program.
