David Grant USAF Medical Center - PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Goals & Objectives

Goals: To provide potential career pharmacy officers with a clinical pharmacy and management experience which will prepare them as innovators and leaders in pharmacy practice. To gain additional experience in specialized areas such as: Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Drug Information, Infectious Diseases, Pharmacokinetics, Hematology/Oncology, Research Design, Pharmacoeconomics, and Administration/Distribution.

Upon completion of the residency, the Residents will have the necessary skills to provide enhanced and more productive pharmaceutical care services in their future careers.

Learning Objectives:

A.
To prepare the Resident so that upon completion he/she is able to:

1.) Function as a Clinical Pharmacist or Chief Pharmacist in a clinic/hospital/medical center environment with the clinical and management skills which will enable him/her to manage problems involving the delivery of pharmaceutical care services and to better interact with his/her professional colleagues.

2.) Provide pharmacy services, clinical and managerial, of the highest quality appropriate for the efficient function of Air Force hospital pharmacy services.

3.) Function as an experienced preceptor, teacher, and role model for University of the Pacific and Touro University School of Pharmacy Pharm.D. candidates and provide stimulus for outstanding students to choose the military as a career. DGMC has been a training site for University of the Pacific Doctor of Pharmacy students since 1993 and Touro University pharmacy students since 2008.

B. To promote an educational climate which facilitates the education and development of the resident not only as a pharmacist, but also as a military officer. Development of self-directed education and decision making within the training period is emphasized. Residents are encouraged to examine and challenge existing ideas and to develop new concepts so that the practical application of these skills is reflected in clinical practice and effective professional relationships.
