David Grant USAF Medical Center - Internal Medicine Residency Program

David Grant USAF Medical Center is the U.S. Air Force's flagship medical center in the United States. It has a large family practice residency training program and a successful joint UC Davis/DGMC general surgery residency. We built on the success of the joint surgical program by reestablishing an internal medicine residency training program integrated with the UC Davis internal medicine residency in 2009.

Residents are primarily based at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif. UC Davis Medical Center is a world class teaching hospital with over 30,000 inpatient admissions and 800,000 ambulatory visits a year.

DGMC has 23  Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited residency programs and 30 ACGME accredited fellowship training programs. Their internal medicine residency training program has multiple tracts including categorical medicine, primary care, dual internal medicine/psychiatry, and a tract focusing on underserved populations (TEACH).

Our training program is a parallel military tract for active duty Air Force residents. Residents receive typical active duty pay and allowances, and do not incur any additional military service commitments.

The PG1 year of the military tract is spent solely at the UC Davis Medical Center and its affiliated institutions in Sacramento, with a curriculum identical to that of other residents. During the PG2 and PG3 years, residents spend one inpatient month and one elective month rotating at DGMC. The remainder of the curriculum remains identical to that of other residents.

UC Davis and DGMC are approximately 45 miles apart. Free lodging at Travis AFB will be provided to residents rotating at DGMC. Both medical centers are well situated in Northern California for exciting and diverse entertainment and outdoor activities while away from work. San Francisco, the Pacific Coast, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite National Park are all within driving distance.
