David Grant USAF Medical Center - Behavioral Health Optimization Program

The Behavioral Health Optimization Program is an important element of comprehensive medical care and is available to beneficiaries of David Grant USAF Medical Center with a current focus on Primary Care (including DGMC's McClellan Satellite Clinic), Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Clinics. The purpose of this service is to offer assistance when habits, behaviors, stress, worry, or emotional concerns about physical or other life problems are interfering with someone's daily life.

DGMC's Behavioral Health Clinics can help reduce symptoms associated with various chronic medical conditions or help you cope better with these conditions, such as migraine and tension headaches, fibromyalgia, diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension, and irritable bowel syndrome.

DGMC's Behavioral Health Clinics are a part of your medical team and can help develop plans for behavioral change programs, such as smoking cessation, weight loss, appropriate alcohol use, exercise or other lifestyle modifications. As a result of our continuing efforts, DGMC's Behavioral Health Optimization Program was awarded "Center of Excellence" status by the Air Force Medical Operations Agency in 2007.

As with all health care providers, communications with the Behavioral Health Clinic may not be entirely confidential. Although every effort will be made to protect your privacy, Behavioral Health Clinics have the same reporting obligations as all providers when information related to detrimental mission impact is disclosed by an active duty patient. You can expect your appointments to be no longer than 45 minutes in general, and for the Behavioral Health consultant or Behavioral Health Clinics to provide brief solution-focused interventions (usually no more than 1-6 visits).

Remember -- your primary care manager remains in charge of your health care.  Our Behavioral Health Clinic's primary job is to help you and your PCM develop and implement the best integrated health care plan for YOU! Discuss with your primary care manager the desire to access this service and they will send a consult to the Behavioral Health Clinic. You may also be able to walk-in to the Behavioral Health Clinic right after your appointment with your PCM.
