David Grant USAF Medical Center - UC Davis General Surgery Residency Program

Located in northern California between San Francisco and Sacramento, the David Grant USAF Medical Center's General Surgery Residency program was established in 1967 at Travis Air Force Base.

In 2006, DGMC's General Surgery Residency program integrated with the University of California, Davis General Surgery residency. The UCD/DGMC General Surgery residency is an RRC fully-accredited training program. A full description of the UCD/DGMC General Residency program can be found on the UC Davis Department of Surgery website.

DGMC remains one of the clinical rotations that all surgical residents rotate through during their clinical years. Our faculty at DGMC are comprised of general surgeons and a full complement of surgical subspecialists to include minimally invasive surgery, colorectal, trauma/critical care, vascular, and cardiothoracic.

Two categorical military residents are selected each year to complete their training at the UC Davis/DGMC General Surgery Residency. Selected categorical residents are scheduled for a six-year training program -- five clinical years and one research year performed between the PGY-3 and PGY-4 year.

For the 2012 Joint Selection Graduate Military Education selection board, the UCD/DGMC program will be selecting two (2) categorical residents and ten (10) preliminary year (PGY-1) residents. Applications for the 2012 Joint Service Graduate Medical Education Selection Board are available on the Air Force Medical Service website.

The program offers a dedicated Flight Surgery path for those interested in becoming Flight Surgeons after completion of their General Surgery Internship year. If you would like more information, click on the Flight Surgeon Path hot link below.
